2001 hyundai xg300 review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. This new xg300 brings the style, luxury and roominess of a well-equipped mid-size near-luxury car without the high cost. Hyundai’s warranty reassures us that we’re making a responsible decision with five-year/60,000-mile bumper to bumper, and 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain coverage.  this is a cool car. It's not especially original. It is a decent and affordable mid-size sedan. It's also another indication that hyundai has abandoned the bad old days of poor-quality, boring econoboxes to become a serious contender among $25,000 mid-size cars. lineuptwo models are available, the xg300 23,499) and the xg300l 24,999).  the base model isn't really all that base. The only, truly aspirational feature it doesn't include is automatic air conditioning. The xg300 emblem on the rear and xg logos on the wheels are the only other markings, further adding to the car's elegance.  the glass house balances openness with structure. Triangulated a-pillars adequately support the roof but avoid blinding a driver to vehicles turning left at an intersection. High-ceilinged side and rear windows facilitate assessing surrounding traffic flows with an eye for the occasional, but psychically essential, darting lane change. Outside door handles are very well-designed: attractive, comfortable, and easy to grab.  a close and careful visual examination unearths hints of the infiniti q45, the lincoln ls and even the jaguar s-type. There's a bit more shoulder in the rear quarters than on any of those. The front end, though, could fool all but the most discerning viewer. That there's no obvious hyundai logo helps.  in fact, when shown to focus groups prior to its public introduction, the xg300 bested the oldsmobile intrigue and the nissan maxima and gave the upscale acura tl a run for the money on the appeal scale, until, that is, the hyundai logo was affixed. When that happened, the focus groups deep-sixed the xg300. The only reason for this is hyundai's reputation as the maker of the first disposable car. The excel is ancient history, but perceptions aren't changed as quickly as quality controls, and improvements in engineering and design. The xg300 is the future, and the future looks bright for hyundai, at least in terms of product. interiorsitting in the driver's seat, almost everything is friendly and familiar. A smooth, quiet dash houses easy-to-read gauges in a well-shaded recess. All the necessary controls for the sound system and air conditioning fall readily to hand, with the stereo properly positioned above the ventilation panel. Audiophiles will likely find the stereo lacks dynamic range.  faux-wood trim accents suggest luxury. Trimmed in light-colored leather, it is an attractive interior. Seats, front and rear, are comfortable, walking that fine line between aggressive and soft; they are flat like a mercedes seat, but lack support in the seat bottom. A center head restraint in the rear seat would reassure the rare fifth passenger, but the xg300 does have the new, iso-specification anchors for child safety seats across the rear bench. Rear head restraints lock into their selected positions for improved safety, ratcheting forward for comfortable adjustment. When in position, they block rearward vision somewhat, but can be removed (with a struggle) when not being used.  tested by the tape measure, the xg300's interior is more than merely competitive. Only the ford taurus and nissan maxima offer more front seat head room, and by less than an inch. Only the maxima has more front seat leg room, with the xg300 besting the rest by more than an inch.  rear-seat passengers can wear taller hats than friends and neighbors riding in the taurus, maxima, chevrolet impala, dodge intrepid or toyota avalon.  one place the xg300 brings up the rear is in trunk space, giving up more than one half a cubic foot to the next smallest trunk, the maxima's. The xg300's has an inside release in deference to growing concerns about children unwittingly locking themselves in car trunks; a nice plus is the release doubles as a pull-down for closing the trunk, sparing hands the road grime that commonly attaches itself to a car's back end.  garment hooks inside reflect thoughtfulness. Instead of being suspended from roof-mounted, rear-seat assist grips, they fold out from the headliner, making them much more user-friendly -- and less likely to dump the week's dry cleaning onto the floor. driving impressionthis is a card-carrying, not especially light, midsize sedan, but the all-coil spring suspension smoothes out sharp pavement ridges and coddles the xg300 through abrupt directional changes. It doesn't have quite the chassis sophistication on bumpy roads of a $30,000 infiniti i30. Road and tire noise seemed a bit loud for the class but not enough to lighten the right foot's pressure on the go-fast pedal.  that go-fast pedal delivers less horsepower and torque than the competition, down 8 horsepower and 22 pound-feet of torque from the taurus, the next-lowest on the power scale. But the xg300's engine revs freely and pulls decently. It won't win the stoplight grand prix, but what it promises it delivers. When left in the auto mode, the transmission is slow to downshift; and the upshifts are on the long side. None of this is an issue when cruising at normal speeds.  a hefty steering wheel and strong hood profile invite spirited directional inputs; it's nice to know where the front of the car is pointed. The placement of the shiftronic gate to the right side of the shift lever away from the driver seems counterintuitive, though. A more natural reflex would be to tug the lever toward the driver to activate the shiftronic function, as then the shifts up and down a gear could be executed mostly intuitively without worrying about inadvertently slipping the lever back to the left into the straight, automatic mode.  all other inputs to the driver are positive. Braking is reassuringly linear. AM/FM✔ Air Conditioning✔ Sunroof/Moonroof

2012 hyundai accent review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. All-new subcompact delivers excellent value. introductionhyundai accent is all-new for 2012, and it's a winner. According to the government, the 2012 accent's interior volume puts it in the larger compact class.  the 2012 accent is longer in wheelbase and overall length than most of the competition, which means more room inside for people and cargo, and a smoother ride.  we found the accent very easy to drive. It's responsive but not quick, smooth by subcompact standards but not luxurious. Everything in the cabin is intuitive and easy to operate. It's an attractive design and the materials look nice.  the 2012 accent looks sportier and more modern than last year's version. The 2012 accent features hyundai's new design theme shared with sonata and elantra models.  for 2012, the body was reshaped with more flowing lines and more sculpted sheetmetal. The 2012 accent looks like a smaller version of the new elantra. The accent's new body shape carries a low coefficient of drag, 0. 30, which helps with wind noise and fuel mileage. The designers chose to go with body color everywhere, from bumpers to mirrors to handles, with black accents and design elements, so there is almost no chrome trim on the new car beyond the grille bar. The engine is rated at 138 horsepower and 123 pound-feet of torque. The new engine is 40 pounds lighter than the previous engine. Like the other cars in this class, the accent uses front-wheel drive.  the 2012 accent comes with a choice of 6-speed manual gearbox or 6-speed automatic. On manual-transmission models, there is an ecoshift indicator between the instrument pods to indicate the proper gear for all driving conditions. We liked the with the 6-speed manual but didn't care for the indicator as we think we know the proper gear better than the car does. The clutch pedal was light and easy to operate. The automatic features a shiftronic manual-shifting mode, allowing the driver more control over shifting. We preferred to just put it in drive and go.  fuel economy is an epa-rated 28/37 mpg city/highway regardless of transmission choice. The comfort decor package 1750) upgrades the audio system, mirrors, door trim and air conditioning.  accent gls sedan with 6-speed automatic 15,195) adds to the above automatic air conditioning, upgraded audio with six speakers, usb port and ipod auxiliary jack and adapter, heated power mirrors, hill-start assist control, upgraded door trim. The premium decor package 1300) upgrades the interior and exterior trim and adds premium cloth seats, cruise control, fog lights, 16-inch alloy wheels with 195/50r16 tires, remote keyless entry, steering wheel-mounted audio controls, bluetooth.  accent gs five-door hatchback 14,595) comes with the 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission 15,795). Accent gs comes with all the premium gls features, the six-speaker audio system, usb port, upgraded interior lighting, power mirrors, upgraded door trim, visor vanity mirrors. A hatchback, the gs includes a power tailgate and 60-40 split-folding rear seats. The suspension tuning is different and the gs comes with 16-inch alloy wheels with 195/50hr16 tires.  accent se five-door with manual transmission 15,795) or automatic 16,795) come standard with bluetooth, cruise control, fog lights, rear spoiler, leather-wrapped steering wheel with audio controls, sport-tuned power steering. (all prices are manufacturer's suggested retail prices, which do not include destination charge and may change at any time without notice. Destination charge is $760.)  safety equipment on the hyundai accent includes front, side and roof curtain air bags, and abs disc brakes with electronic brake-force distribution and brake assist, traction control, electronic stability control. walkaroundhyundai accent is all-new for 2012. No longer a jelly-bean-shaped rental transport unit, the 2012 hyundai accent has grown up to be a real, modern car.  the 2012 accent has been given a complete cosmetic makeover, with every panel on the car replaced by newer and flashier sheetmetal, with almost no chrome on the exterior other than the badges. There's a new upper and lower grille design, new hood, new fenders, new lamps, new bumpers and air intakes up front, with body-colored door handles all around, new taillamps, liftgate, and wheels. The front and rear lamp treatments on the new accent are particularly adventurous and modern.  we like the sedan, especially when compared to the nerdy outgoing car, but we like the hatchback a whole lot better when it comes to pure eye appeal. Hyundai claims a respectable 0. 30 coefficient of drag for the sedan version, slightly higher for the five-door with the longer roof. interiorthe 2012 hyundai accent interior has been totally redesigned. The 2012 accent has a far more modern interior than the previous model, with brushed metal accents on the doors, steering wheel and center console, white-on-black instrumentation with red needles, and a multi-function steering wheel. The elements have been redesigned for more room, more storage spaces.  sporty bucket seats feature superior cushions and bolsters. We found the seats comfortably supportive without being intrusive. Outward vision is excellent. The instrument panel, center stack, vents, switches and controls have all been redone for the 2012 accent models and it's all easy to look at and operate. The instrument package contains the usual two round gauges with digital readouts and indicators between the deeply tunneled clusters and is bathed in ice blue light at night.  the three-spoke steering wheel has a thick rim and a thickly padded hub. Lower models have urethane-covered steering wheels, upper models have leather-wrapped wheels with convenient switches for the sound system on the left, cruise control system on the right, and telephone on the lower left.  as for storage, the rated cargo capacity of the hyundai accent is 21. 2 cubic feet behind the folding second-row bench seat, and 47. 5 cubic feet with the second seat folded flat. Door and console storage is generous, and the new accent has a sliding console armrest, unusual in this class.  in the center binnacle, there is a usb port, an aux port, and the two combine to make a port for an ipod cable, a very clever arrangement. The new engine is smooth and quiet, and runs at about 2200 rpm at 70 mph in sixth gear, and about 4400 rpm at 100 mph. The thrifty, gutty little gamma engine is surrounded by helpers like electric power steering, low-rolling-resistance tires, lighter elements throughout the engine bay and the rest of the vehicle.  it all adds up to accent's 28/37 mpg epa mileage rating city/highway.  the 6-speed automatic transmission performed quickly and quietly.  the 6-speed manual gearbox is easy to shift and the clutch pedal was light and easy to operate. Some models include an ecoshift indicator between the instrument pods to indicate the proper gear for all driving conditions. We did not care for this and generally find shift lights distracting.  going down the road, the accent is far smoother and quieter than we were expecting it to be. A more-rigid chassis, stronger steel, more and better sound insulation and better door seals show in the car's quiet highway behavior.  we found the accent responds relatively quickly, has good tracking, relatively quick response, and good feel on center. Bump, rut and pothole damping is very good. Roll control on twisty mountain and desert roads was very good, and the car stayed put pretty well in hard corners. It's one of the lightest cars in its class at less than 2500 pounds, so it responds quickly to inputs.  the all-disc anti-lock braking system (abs) is rare in the subcompact class, and the accent's stopping performance was excellent. summarythe all-new hyundai accent a much better car than the. 2012 hyundai elantra review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. This latest design is modern and stylish, with crisp, clean lines. The cabin is roomy and attractive.  we found the elantra enjoyable to drive. It has a nice balance of smooth ride and responsive handling. The government numbers are unchanged, however. Also, the steering has been recalibrated on 2012 elantra models for better on-center feel, and the horn has been upgraded. Like other compacts, elantra is front-wheel drive. Its relative light weight, less than 2,900 pounds, helps the elantra with acceleration performance, braking performance, handling and fuel economy.  fuel economy is an epa-estimated 28/38 mpg city/highway with either transmission. That's better than the ford focus (26/36 mpg), chevrolet cruze (26/36 mpg), or honda civic (28/36 mpg). It compares favorably to the super-efficient focus sfe (28/40), cruze eco (28/42), and civic hf (29/41) models. Hyundai says its elantra pzev model (that's california-speak for partial zero emissions vehicle) is as clean as many hybrid electric vehicles, though power from the pzev is slightly less. Hyundai claims a range of up to 500 miles.  inside, elantra is roomy, especially by compact standards. Its interior measurements are comparable to those of a small midsize car. There's plenty of headroom and legroom for tall drivers. Once inside, the back seat is tolerable for tall passengers, making this a great car for college students, though the sedan's fastback roof doesn't offer the rear-seat headroom of a hatchback. The gls preferred package 600) upgrades to alloy wheels, steering wheel audio controls, fog lights, bluetooth hands-free phone system with voice recognition, upgraded interior trim, sliding center armrest, illuminated vanity mirrors with driver extension and illuminated ignition.  elantra limited 20,445) comes only with the automatic transmission and includes leather upholstery with heated front and rear seats, air conditioning, power moonroof, 215/45hr17 tires with 17-inch alloy wheels, fog lights, leather-wrapped wheel and shift knob, mirror-imbedded turn signals, black chrome grille, solar glass, minor cabin upgrades, and most of the gls preferred content. The limited technology package 2,100) adds navigation with 7-inch screen, rearview camera, 360-watt premium audio, automatic headlights, proximity key for key-in-pocket operation.  safety features that come standard include front, front-side and side-curtain airbags, and electronic stability control with vehicle stability control, antilock brakes, brake assist, and traction control. Most of the rest of the class looks dated by comparison. The elantra appears to have the sleekest, highest tail in its class and looks faster because of it. It's currently the most distinctive shape in this segment, rivaled only by the 2012 ford focus and honda civic.  viewed from the front, the hexagonal grille presents a more sinister smile than that of the mazda 3, more eager to play, a dustbuster with attitude. The headlight housings wrap into the fenders, the trailing edge back as far as the centerline of the front wheels. The crease that runs a rising arc from the front wheel, through the door handles and over the rear-wheel openings into the tail lights mirrors the shape of the old triumph tr7 and tr8 sports cars. The tail lights are long, wavy wraparound fixtures echoing the curves that lead in to the rear bumper and promote airflow to help keep the lights clean; on a dirty road surface the license plate should be the first part shrouded in muck.  elantra limited models can be distinguished by their larger alloy wheels, fog lights, and mirror-mounted signal repeaters. We think the nice interior is part of the value proposition offered by the elantra. It has neither hint of cheapness nor pretense of luxury.  heated rear seats come standard on the elantra limited model, along with leather upholstery and faux leather door panels all perforated in a wave pattern. Elantra gls models use cloth upholstery. All the elantra seats are the same construction, however. The headliner employs a mix of material that includes volcanic rock to an interesting effect more attractive than fuzzy cardboard or plastic. We were pleasantly surprised to find the center ac vents were color-matched to the surrounding trim, not always the case, even on more expensive cars.  room up front is very good and the seats are set well in from the doors for extra elbow space. With the front seats left in place they squeezed under the low door opening into the back, when both found sufficient knee and toe space while one could sit upright without head against the headliner as the other was. It's worth noting the least expensive model does not include a telescoping steering column, which aids comfort and driver awareness. The rear seats are also comfortable, the center floor nearly flat and the center seat higher but well padded.  analog road and engine speed complement digital fuel and temperature, bathed in blue at night. Most steering wheels have redundant control options and on cars so equipped telephone buttons for hands-on operation. Radio or navigation/audio atop the center stack was easy to work and see in sunlight, though occasionally we'd stumble upon some slightly odd logic like the low-frequency (bass) adjustment on top and the high-frequency (treble) adjustment on the bottom; alphabetical isn't what we're accustomed to. Ventilation controls are in th. AM/FM✔ Power Windows✔ Anti-lock Brakes✔ Cruise Control✔ Air Conditioning✔ Bluetooth✔ Sunroof/Moonroof✔ Alloy Wheels
